Alissa began her running career about a decade ago when one of her children told their dad that Alissa was helpless when it related to sport; it is not in her genes. To demonstrate to her children that anything is possible and acknowledge that her children was right that sport is not in her genes, Alissa started jogging/running and overcame all the physical pains and mental obstacles – she had to set an example for her children and did not give up. Fast forward years later, she is proudly a passionate full marathon runner and a new addition to the triathlon SJVRC team. She focuses on training hard and enjoy the journey of the race and not just the finish!
Alissa joined the Board Member since the beginning of its creation and have been working with the SJVRC Core and Board members building, shaping, and continuously improving the SJVRC running club. She joined the club simply because the club focuses its efforts on fundraising and charity to support the less privileged children of Vietnam. It is rewarding to have the opportunity to giving back to the society and be part of the group continuously find creative ways to help the children. At the same time, it empowers runners to reach their athlete goals and create a community for runners of all fitness and interest levels. It is exciting to experience each person grows and transforms into a runner or triathlete; and to watch our team members cross the finish line for the first time..knowing that experience and the first well-earned race medal changed their lives forever.
Therefore, regardless of what your goal is in life (running, triathlete, or doing charities, etc.), remember that anything is possible and, “The miracle isn’t that you finished. The miracle is that you had the courage to start.” — John Bingham.
