Silicon Valley Strong Heroes Local Organization Steps Up to Help Vaccinate At-Risk Community Members in San José

SJ Continues to Move Towards 85% Vaccination Goal

San José has a goal to get 85% of its residents fully vaccinated by August 1, 2021. To achieve this requires dedication and hard work from healthcare workers, city workers and most importantly – community volunteers.

Thankfully, one local organization has shown their dedication to ensuring all residents have access to the vaccine, especially those who are most at-risk. The San José Viet Running Club (SJVRC) has assisted the City of San José’s Vaccination Task force with hours of volunteer service and have been community advocates for the COVID-19 vaccine. Thank you to these #SiliconValleyStrongHeroes for making our community safer for all!

The SJVRC is a nonprofit organization that promotes a healthy lifestyle while serving their community through volunteer work and fundraising. Members of SJVRC have volunteered at multiple San José vaccination events, and some even provided assistance as health care professionals by vaccinating residents.

One SJVRC member, Mai Tram, is the Pharmacy Manager for Safeway. Along with serving as a volunteer for the Vaccination Task Force, Tram has held vaccine clinics using Safeway’s state allocation of vaccine during the months of March and April when the COVID-19 vaccine was scarce.

Other SJVRC members have offered food to unhoused residents during clinics, directed traffic during vaccination events, assisted with vaccination registration, helped with food distribution, and helped with setting up and cleaning up entire vaccination clinics. This group was also instrumental in spreading the word about the COVID-19 vaccine and encouraging their fellow Vietnamese community members to get vaccinated.volunteering at vaccination events SJVRC volunteered for local food distribution efforts
Along with volunteering at vaccination events, the SJVRC has volunteered for local food distribution efforts to help fight food insecurity in Santa Clara County.

“Without the help of SJVRC, we couldn’t have delivered 200+ vaccinations to the disability community, 732 doses to residents in the most impacted census tract in San Jose at Foxdale Village Apartments, and 65+ vaccinations at Tully Library,” said Anh Tran, San José’s Vaccination Task Force Director on the vital work of these volunteers during vaccination events.

Through SJVRC’s assistance and service at multiple vaccination clinics, our community is getting closer to the 85% vaccination goal. By promoting vaccinations, members of the SJVRC are taking strides to develop a healthier, safer community. Thank you, #SiliconValleyStrongHeroes!
